Obsidian Tutorial

Obsidian is positioned as a local Markdown note-taking system that uses folders and plain text to drive knowledge structure.

Obsidian does not rely on cloud formats or lock in user data. You can migrate at any time, and your data can be read by any editor.

Obsidian is essentially a powerful note-taking app, but it is more than just recording text. It is a tool that connects your notes, ideas, and knowledge points, aiming to build a networked, searchable, private knowledge web, just like the neural connections in your brain.

Why use Obsidian?

  • Plain text and an open ecosystem, based on Markdown and local files.
  • The linking system builds a networked knowledge structure, making it more suitable for learning and organizing than traditional tree-shaped notes.
  • Runs locally, does not depend on the network, and there is no risk of data loss due to service shutdown.
  • Highly customizable, with thousands of community plugins and themes.

Then choose Quick Start to go directly to the page and check the layout:

  2. Middle area (Editor):The main place where you write. It supports "Live Preview" mode, meaning when you type Markdown symbols, it immediately renders them into formatting.
  3. Right sidebar (Panel):By default, it showsbacklinks(i.e., which other notes mention the note you are currently viewing) and the outline.
  4. Command Palette (Ctrl/Cmd + P):A newbie's best friend! Press this shortcut and type the action you want to perform (such as "Create new note"), without clicking through menus.

2. Create Your First Vault

A Vault is the most important concept in Obsidian.

Vault = a folder:libraryIt is simply a regular folder on your computer that stores all your note files.

When you first open Obsidian, click the "Create" button under "Create new vault":

。

If you have already opened it, click the Obsidian Vault icon at the very bottom of the left sidebar to manage existing vaults, or you can also reconfigure the vault:

Then give your vault a name (e.g., My Second Brain) and choose a local folder location that is easy for you to find (e.g., Obsidian Vaults on your desktop or in your Documents folder).

After creation, you will see the current vault name, such as my EXAMPLE. We can rename the default "Welcome" file to start writing your first note:

Change the file name toEXAMPLE-Obsidian Tutorial, then write the following Markdown content:
