Linux uuto Command
The Linux uuto command transfers files to a remote UUCP host.
uutoIt is a command-line tool in Unix and Linux systems, used to transfer files across a UUCP (Unix-to-Unix Copy) network.
UUCP is an early network protocol used to transfer files and execute commands between different Unix systems.
uutoThe command is part of the UUCP toolset, allowing users to send files to remote systems and perform some simple operations on the remote system.
Syntax
uuto [选项] 源文件 目标系统!目标用户
Parameters:
- Source file: The file or directory to be transferred.
- Target system: The name of the remote system.
- Target user: The username on the remote system.
Common options:
uutoThe command supports some common options; the following are a few common ones:
-m: Send an email notification to the user after the file transfer is complete.-p: Compress the file before transferring it.-r: Recursively transfer the directory and its contents.

Examples
Transfer a single file
Suppose you have a fileexample.txt, and you want to send it to the remote systemremote_systemthe user onremote_user, you can use the following command:
uuto example.txt remote_system!remote_user
Transfer a directory
If you want to transfer a directorymy_directoryand all its contents, you can use-roption:
uuto -r my_directory remote_system!remote_user
Compress the file before transfer
If you want to compress the file before transfer, you can use-poption:
uuto -p example.txt remote_system!remote_user
Send an email notification after the transfer is complete
If you want to receive an email notification after the file transfer is complete, you can use-moption:
uuto -m example.txt remote_system!remote_user
Notes
- UUCP network configuration: Before using
uutothe command, ensure that your system has been correctly configured for the UUCP network. This usually includes, under the/etc/uucp/directory, configuring the system name, remote system name, and connection method. - Permission issues: Ensure you have permission to access the remote system, and the remote user has permission to receive files.
- File path: When transferring files, ensure the file path is correct to avoid transmission failures caused by incorrect paths.
