Definition and Usage

The AutoCompleteType property is used to set or return the AutoComplete type of the TextBox control.

The AutoComplete feature can create a list of values that have been entered in the text box. When the text box is used again, the list of previously entered values will be displayed. Users can directly select a value without having to retype previously entered values.

Syntax

Property Description
cat Specifies the AutoComplete type.

Possible values:

  • BusinessCity - The business address city category.
  • BusinessCountryRegion - The business address country/region category.
  • BusinessFax - The business address fax number category.
  • BusinessPhone - The business address phone number category.
  • BusinessState - The business address state category.
  • BusinessStreetAddress - The business address street address category.
  • BusinessUrl - The business website URL category.
  • BusinessZipCode - The business address postal code category.
  • Cellular - The mobile phone number category.
  • Company - The company name category.
  • Department - The department within a company category.
  • Disabled - Disables the auto-complete feature for the TextBox control.
  • DisplayName - The display name category for the user.
  • Email - The user's email address category.
  • FirstName - The user's first name category.
  • Gender - The user's gender category.
  • HomeCity - The home address city category.
  • HomeCountryRegion - The home address country/region category.
  • HomeFax - The home address fax number category.
  • Homepage - The website URL category.
  • HomePhone - The home address phone number category.
  • HomeState - The home address state category.
  • HomeStreetAddress - The home address street address category.
  • HomeZipCode - The home address postal code category.
  • JobTitle - The user's job title category.
  • LastName - The user's last name category.
  • MiddleName - The user's middle name category.
  • None - No category is associated with the TextBox control. All TextBox controls with the same ID share the same value list.
  • Notes - Any supplementary information to be included in the form category.
  • Office - The business office location category.
  • Pager - The pager number category.
  • Search - The keyword category used to search web pages or websites.

The following example sets the AutoCompleteType property to "FirstName":
