Linux restore Command
The Linux restore command is used to restore files or an entire file system (a partition) backed up by the dump operation.
The restore command performs the opposite operation of the dump command. The dump operation is used to back up files, while the restore operation writes back these backed-up files.
Syntax
Parameters:
- -b<block size> Set the block size, in bytes.
- -c Do not check the backup format of the dump operation; only allow reading backup files that use the old format.
- -C Use compare mode to compare the backed-up files with the current files.
- -D<file system> Allow the user to specify the name of the file system.
- -f<backup file> Read backup data from the specified file to perform the restore operation.
- -h Only extract directories without including all files associated with that directory.
- -i Use interactive mode. When performing the restore operation, the restore command will prompt the user in sequence.
- -m Extract files or directories matching the specified inode number rather than specifying by file name.
- -r Perform the restore operation.
- -R When fully restoring a file system, check where to start.
- -s<file number> When the backup data exceeds one tape volume, you can specify the number of the backup file.
- -t Specify file names. If these files already exist in the backup file, list their names.
- -v Display the execution process of the command.
- -x Set file names and read them from the specified storage medium. If these files already exist in the backup file, restore them to the file system.
- -y Do not ask any questions; always answer yes and continue executing the command.
