The Linux grpconv (group convert to shadow password) command is used to enable the group's shadow passwords.
User and group passwords in Linux systems are stored in the passwd and group files in the /etc directory, respectively. Because the system requires them to operate, anyone can read them, creating a security vulnerability. Shadow passwords move the passwords in these files into the shadow and gshadow files in the /etc directory, which can only be read by the system administrator, and replace the original passwords with the "x" character. The shadow password feature can be enabled or disabled at any time; you simply need to execute the grpconv command to enable group shadow passwords.
