Tag definition and usage instructions

The <title> tag defines the title of the document, and is required in all HTML documents.

The <title> element:

  • Defines a title in the browser toolbar
  • Provides a title for the page when it is added to favorites
  • Displays the page title in search-engine results

Tips and Notes

Note:An HTML document cannot have more than one <title> element.

Tip:If you omit the <title> tag, the document is not valid as HTML.
