Browser Support
All major browsers support the rel attribute.
Note:Although browsers do not use this attribute in any way, search engines can use this attribute to gain more information about the link.
Definition and Usage
The rel attribute of the <a> tag is used to specify the relationship between the current document and the linked document.
The rel attribute can only be used if the href attribute is used.
Differences between HTML 4.01 and HTML5
Some values were removed, and some new values were added.
