Definition and Usage

The utf8_encode() function encodes an ISO-8859-1 string to UTF-8.

Unicode is a global standard that has been developed to describe all possible characters in all languages through a unique code for each character/symbol plus a large number of symbols.

However, it is not always possible to reliably transfer Unicode characters between computers. UTF-8 can be used to transfer Unicode characters between computers.

If successful, the function returns the encoded string. If it fails, it returns FALSE.

utf8_encode(string)

Parameter Description
string Required. Specifies the string to be encoded.
