Definition and Usage

The cite property is used to set or return the value of the cite attribute of the inserted text.

The cite attribute points to the URL of another document that explains why the text was inserted or modified.

Note:The cite attribute has no visual effect in ordinary web browsers, but can be used by screen readers.

Syntax

Return the cite property:

insObject.cite

Set the cite property:

insObject.cite=URL

Property Values

Value Description
URL Defines the URL of the document that explains why the text was inserted or modified.

Possible values:
  • Absolute URL - points to another website (e.g. cite="http://www.example.com")
  • Relative URL - points to a page within the website (e.g. cite="example.html")

Technical Details

Return Value: String, representing the URL address of the source document
