There is no doubt that Java will be TIOBE's Language of the Year today. Objective-C's 8% plunge seems to have been completely absorbed by the current most popular language. Another interesting move is the rise of Python. It is currently at an all-time high. It is easy to learn, and it is used everywhere. Python is the current standard for scripting.

The TIOBE Programming Community Index is an indicator of programming language popularity trends, updated monthly. This ranking is based on the number of experienced programmers, courses, and third-party vendors on the Internet. The ranking is calculated using well-known search engines (such as Google, MSN, Yahoo!, Wikipedia, YouTube, and Baidu, etc.).

This index can be used to check whether your programming skills are still up to date, or to make strategic decisions about which programming language to adopt when starting to build a new software system. The definition of the TIOBE index can be found here.
