A couple of days ago, while I was brainstorming some geeky ideas, my wife suddenly said to me, "You should write an article about the 10 reasons to date a programmer." I was stunned, "You should be the one to tell me that!"

My wife and I have been married for over ten years, and I have always wondered why she chose me. Didn't my geek behavior drive her crazy? After a long talk, we summed up the following ten points.

1. We are loyal

Programmers are naturally loyal. If a person can be loyal to dull things like hardware, operating systems, and so on, you can imagine how loyal he will be when he meets his other half.

2. We are meticulous

Looking at how programmers and geeks treat their beloved collections, such as gadgets, CPUs, and so on, you can understand how carefully he will treat you once he falls in love with you.

3. We don't create problems, we solve them

Our mission is to solve problems. We are always looking for problems and solving them. My wife is very satisfied with this. Whenever a problem arises, I will try my best to solve it.

4. We like to listen

Our brains are often running at high speed, which is both good and bad. The good side is that we can listen to you talk about your problems for hours. The bad side is that we often get distracted because we are thinking about how to solve your problems. But at least, we like to listen.

5. We are creative

Perhaps we don't realize it ourselves, but programmers and geeks are very creative. I don't mean creative like painting or photography; I mean something more practical. Just last week, I made a pop-up Valentine's Day card for my wife. This card earned me quite a few extra points.

6. We work hard to find gifts for you

When we know we need to give a gift, we enter search mode. Especially for that special someone, we will go through all the websites, read reviews, ratings, forums, just to find that perfect gift.

7. We are good at learning

We always enjoy learning and trying new things. When others say to you, "How could I possibly know?", we will quietly help you find the answer. This also applies to intimate moments.

8. We are adaptable

We know you are sometimes changeable, but that's okay. We are used to adapting to various environments.

9. We are easy to please

A gift? What gift? As a geek, I can basically satisfy my own needs. If you want to give me a gift, you have two choices. First, give me something meaningful, even just a hug. Second, pick one of my hobbies – CPU, memory?

10. We don't stay up late watching sports

Regarding this one, I have to use the 80/20 rule. Basically, only 20% of programmers and geeks like watching sports. If you hate yelling at the TV, we won't bring you that kind of annoyance.
