The July 2014 TIOBE Programming Language Rankings were released, with no significant changes in the top three: C, Java, and Objective-C.
Apple's new programming language Swift entered the 16th place on the TIOBE index rankings. Since Apple released this new language, everyone is probably curious to know what kind of language it is. Swift is a new programming language for iOS and OS X application programming, based on C and Objective-C, but without some of C's compatibility constraints. Swift may stay in the top 20 for a long time, and could possibly enter the top 10.
The TIOBE index is an indicator of the popularity of programming languages, and it is updated monthly. This index can be used to check whether your programming skills are still up to date, or to make strategic decisions about programming languages when you start building a new software system. The definition of the TIOBE index can beherefound.
