Shutdown Commands

We can use the following three commands to shut down Linux:

1. Shut down immediately (requires root user)

shutdown -h now

Automatic shutdown after 10 minutes

shutdown -h 10

2. Shut down immediately

halt

3. Shut down immediately

poweroff

Restart Commands

You can use the following two commands to restart:

1. The simplest way is to use the reboot command (requires root user)

reboot

2. You can also use the shutdown command

shutdown -r now
