Apple's fall new product launch this year brought us the brand-new 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. And as everyone knows, the official release date is September 19. Mainland China was not on the first-wave launch regions list, nor was it included in the second batch of pre-order list. Looking at the previous two generations of iPhone, they did not bring any substantial breakthrough, only minor tweaks on the existing basis. Is the iPhone aging? The 5 data charts tell you.

First chart: Baidu Index

The Baidu Index refers to how large the search scale of the keyword "iPhone" is on Baidu, the rise-and-fall trend over a period of time, and related news and public opinion changes. The trend is obvious, right? If you can "scientifically access the internet" to look up Google Trends, you'll find the trend is basically the same.

Second chart: Taobao Search Index

The Taobao Search Index also indicates the volume and trend of users searching the keyword "iPhone" on Taobao. From January last year to July this year, the search volume fell terribly; even the launches of the 5C and 5S failed to reverse the trend. As for the high point at the end of August this year, comparing with previous data, you can easily see obvious signs of artificial manipulation.

Third chart: Sina Weibo Index

The Weibo Index reflects how hot a keyword is on Weibo. Currently, data is only available from January 2013. From the first two charts, we can see that the period from January 2013 to August 2014 was already a slump, and from the Weibo Index, this low point continues to decline. In fact, it shows that people are no longer willing to mention iPhone on Weibo. This also indirectly reflects that it has become a common "street phone".

Fourth chart: Weibo mentions on the day of the new product launch

81e9c89cc674aceb0cdf99902bbaa2d0

Sina Weibo has been around since 2009, so I counted the number of Weibo posts mentioning the keyword "iPhone X" (X is the product number) on the day of each iPhone product launch over these five years. The iPhone 5 reached a peak, then it declined. When the iPhone 6 was released, which was yesterday, there were only a pitiful 397,000 Weibo posts mentioning it, far behind the previous two products. In one sentence, the audience has nothing left to complain about. Even the Chinese interpretation fiasco at Apple's press conference and the China launch region fiasco did not rescue iPhone's public opinion on Weibo.

Fifth chart: Apple's stock price trend yesterday

c9014a1e9e5d8f544422224156208b6a

As can be seen from the chart, on the day of the press conference, everyone was full of hope at first, but as the conference progressed, Apple's stock kept falling. However, today Apple's stock rose 3%, and it may continue to rise in the future. The stock price increase only represents the success of Apple's ubiquity (just a victory in financial data), not the success of its products. Consumers' enthusiasm has already cooled.
