In three months, I will be a veteran programmer with ten years of work experience, always on the front lines of coding. From graduating and going to the Shenzhen job market with my resume, to working with project managers on various projects, and finally to leading the entire process of project development myself, I have never left the coding front line. In China, it cannot be said that coding has no future. When a business is in a slump, programmers are usually the last to be laid off, which shows that programmers' career pressure is less than that of sales and marketing. On the other hand, doing what you are interested in, doing what is within your capabilities, and giving full play to your due abilities should be the main direction of career planning.
I spend quite a long time every day working with computers, but over these 10 years, my myopia has remained stable at 400 degrees. Below I will share the experience I have accumulated over the years for your reference. I am not a doctor. If you have any eye discomfort, don't hesitate to put down everything you are doing and see a doctor immediately.
1. Change the programming font size in Visual Studio / SQL Server Management Studio
After installing the programming software, the first thing to do is change the font size. I usually change it to 14pt. The default font size of 9pt in the tool software is too small (the default font size of Visual Studio .NET 2003 is 9pt, and the default font size of recent Visual Studio 2013/2015 is 10pt).
The new version of Visual Studio also supports importing settings from older versions, so when starting up, you only need to import the settings from the older version of the software.
2. Set the screen background to an eye-friendly protective color
The mung bean paste color can effectively reduce eye fatigue from long periods of computer use. The relevant default color information is as follows:
Hue: 85, Saturation: 123, Brightness: 205;
RGB color: Red: 199, Green: 237, Blue: 204;
Hexadecimal color: #C7DAED or #CCDAE8
I recommend an excellent setting tool. Search online for the portable version of 360 Eye Guard. It can set the screen background color to bean paste color.

I strongly promote this software, and my colleagues at the company also really like the software I recommended.
3. Do eye exercises regularly. Once at 10 a.m., once at 4 p.m., and once before going to bed at night.
I recall when I was in elementary school, when the broadcast sounded, it played: "Students, to protect your eyesight for the revolution, eye exercises now begin. Close your eyes..."
Now the revolution has succeeded. Even if not for the revolution, for the health of your own eyes, you should also do eye exercises regularly.
The following content is from Baidu Baike, for your reference. There are several versions of eye exercises. It is enough to master one and do it regularly.
Section 1: Press and rub the eye acupoint on the earlobe, and grip the ground with toes
Use the whorls of the thumbs and index fingers of both hands to pinch the eye acupoint in the center of the earlobe, with the other three fingers naturally together and bent. Following the music command, rhythmically knead the acupoint with the thumb and index finger, while simultaneously performing a gripping motion with all toes of both feet. Do this once per beat, for four sets of eight beats.
Section 2: Press and rub the temples, and scrape the upper eye sockets
Use the whorls of the thumbs of both hands to press on the temples on each side, with the other fingers naturally relaxed and bent. Following the music command, first press and rub the temples with the thumbs, one circle per beat, rubbing four circles. Then, keeping the thumbs still, use the inner side of the second joint of the index fingers of both hands, with a little force, to scrape from the brow to the end of the brow. Scrape once every two beats, and scrape twice in a row. Alternate in this way for four sets of eight beats.
Section 3: Press and rub Sibai acupoint (ST2)
Use the whorls of the index fingers of both hands to press on the acupoints on both sides, with the thumbs against the depression under the jaw, and the other fingers naturally relaxed and curled into hollow fists. Rhythmically press and rub the acupoints following the music command, one circle per beat, for four sets of eight beats.
Section 4: Press and rub Fengchi acupoint (GB20)
Use the whorls of the index and middle fingers of both hands to press on the acupoints on both sides, with the other three fingers naturally relaxed. Rhythmically press and rub the acupoints following the music command, one circle per beat, for four sets of eight beats.
Section 5: Press the Du Meridian acupoints on the head
Press the Du Meridian acupoints on the head with curved hands four times, from front to back, with fingers relaxed. Press and rub once per beat following the music, for four sets of eight beats.
We often talk about going for a foot bath or a massage to relax the body. Doing eye exercises is like giving your eyes a massage. Eye exercises massage the key acupoints around the eyes, and doing them regularly is good for your eyes.
I recommend finding a version of eye exercises from the following video websites. Spend half an hour learning and practicing, and you'll master it. We spend too much time learning various JavaScript techniques. It's appropriate to spend a little time learning eye exercises to boost health and work efficiency.

4. Improve eye use habits and environment
4.1 If you experience eye fatigue, the quickest way is to do eye exercises, rather than relying on eye drops. Chemical drugs can create dependence.
4.2 When reading books or newspapers, keep a distance of 30 cm at a 45-degree angle between your eyes and the page, and avoid prolonged close-up use of your eyes.
4.3 Avoid reading books or newspapers in a car, in insufficient light, or in strong light. When reading, the light source should be evenly projected from behind or from the left oblique direction. Never read in the sun, and do not read in a dark room by the light from a TV. The idiom "cutting through the wall to steal light" comes from an ancient person who loved reading so much that he cut a small hole in the wall next door to read by the light from the neighbor's house. In ancient times, there was no electric lighting; people used kerosene lamps, the kind still used in rural areas today, which were quite harmful to the eyes. When I was a child, I read picture books under a kerosene lamp, and my mother knitted shoe insoles with a thousand-layer sole under a kerosene lamp. Now conditions are much better, and life today is truly happy.
4.4 Avoid using unclean towels or public face-washing utensils to prevent infection. When staying in hotels, you should bring your own toiletries.
4.5 Get enough sleep and outdoor activities, and often look at green plants in the distance. Programmers generally live in big cities, where greening is quite good. Often taking a walk in the cool shade of trees is good for both your body and your eyes.
4.6 Do eye exercises 3-4 times a day. Wash your face before going to bed, massage your eyes to promote eye rest, and you will feel very comfortable when you open your eyes the next day.
4.7 Don't watch TV, play on the computer, or play video games for long periods of time. Keep a distance between your eyes and the screen. Don't program in a dark corner with only the computer screen on. There must be other light sources around the computer screen. The same applies to watching TV; there should also be other light sources around the TV. In the past, when my family was poor, we always turned off the lights to watch TV. Now conditions are better, and we don't care about that little bit of electricity cost.
5. Dietary improvement
5.1 Pay attention to nutrition in daily life, eat more fresh vegetables, regularly eat green vegetables, and refuse fried foods.
5.2 Vitamin C is one of the components that make up the lens of the eyeball. If you lack vitamin C, you are prone to cataracts caused by clouding of the lens. Among various fresh vegetables and fruits, green peppers, cucumbers, cauliflower, bok choy, fresh jujubes, pears, and oranges have the highest content.
5.3 Foods that improve eyesight, such as goji berries, chrysanthemum, and cassia seeds. Drinking chrysanthemum tea regularly can also achieve the effect of clearing the mind and brightening the eyes. Goji berries clear the liver and improve eyesight, which is also very beneficial for protecting vision. Drinking tea can prevent vision decline and restore vision.
5.4 Lean meat, poultry offal, fish and shrimp, dairy, eggs, beans, etc., are rich in protein.
5.5 Pay attention to a balanced diet and nutrition. In daily life, eat more foods containing vitamins, protein, and fiber, such as whole grains, miscellaneous grains, red and green vegetables, tubers, beans, and fruits. Regularly buy some sweet potatoes, cut them into small pieces, and cook them with rice in a rice cooker. Regularly buy a few ears of corn as whole grains. Coarse fiber has many benefits for people.
In my own experience, a food that can show effects quickly is stir-fried pork liver with chili peppers. After eating it and resting, eye fatigue will be much better the next day. If you can also massage your eyes before going to bed, the effect should be even better.
6. Attend Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) health preservation courses
In TCM Professor Qu Limin's "Talking About Health from Head to Foot", it is said that the eyes are the official (reflection) of the liver, and nourishing the liver is equivalent to conditioning the eyes. I came to like Teacher Qu Limin's health preservation course because when I went to Shenzhen Book City, I saw Teacher Qu's course playing on a TV screen, and after watching it, I felt it was quite good. Health preservation is not a particularly profound learning. Taking a warm hot bath in the cold winter, doing a few eye exercises when your eyes are dry and tired, and often thinking of happy things when you feel depressed—this is health preservation. Teacher Qu said that the greatest method of health preservation is happiness. When a person is happy, the meridians become unobstructed, presenting a very healthy appearance. People who are carefree live the longest. People who worry about everything and fear this and that leave the world in a few years.
The following text is an excerpt from Lecture One of the series "Talking About Health from Head to Foot". For more content, please refer to the video course and the original text.
Talking About Health from Head to Foot (2-2) Eyes
1. The eyes are the emissary of the heart. "The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon": "The essence of the five viscera and six bowels all pours upward into the eyes, making them the essence."
"The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon": "The nest of essence is the eye; the essence of bones is the pupil; the essence of sinews is the black of the eye; the essence of blood is the network; the essence of the qi of the nest is the white of the eye; the essence of muscles is the restraint, wrapping the essence of sinews, bones, blood, and qi and connecting with the vessels, belonging upward to the brain and emerging behind at the nape." The eyes are the messengers of the heart. The heart stores the spirit; if the spirit scatters, the eyes become confused.
2. Eye diseases
1. Tearing eyes: Insufficient lung qi (which governs the regulation of water passages) and insufficient liver qi (which governs the water passages) in its astringent (containment) function.
2. Tears when facing wind: The liver meridian cannot contain (astringe).
3. Dry eyes: Liver blood insufficiency and yang qi deficiency. Such people tend to lose their temper and get angry for no reason.
4. Protruding eyes: The liver meridian cannot contain (astringe). Such people usually have high intraocular pressure, mostly drink excessively, have a hot temper, are prone to anger, are competitive, and women are prone to hyperthyroidism.
5. Eye bags (edema) — The small intestine meridian passes beneath the eyes, related to the triple burner, small intestine, and kidneys. Caused by cold pathogens; insufficient yang qi cannot transform fluids, and fluid metabolism cannot be eliminated.
Upper eyelid swelling — spleen dampness; lower eyelid swelling — yang deficiency
Three. Why do people cry when sad? "Grief stirs the heart; when the heart is stirred, the five organs and six bowels are all shaken." The eyes are the emissary of the heart. When the heart-spirit is disturbed, the eyes become disordered, fluids surge upward, and tears fall. Unceasing tears — seizing essence — will lead to "the eyes seeing nothing."
Four. Eye care methods
1. Eye ironing method — brightens the eyes, dispels wind, removes eye haze; especially suitable for computer users.
Use the Laogong acupoint to apply heat to the eyes. First rub both hands together until warm, close the eyes, cover them with cupped palms, and hold for a while. Once a day, 21 repetitions each time.
2. Rear eye massage method (should be massaged frequently)
Rear eye location — on the back of the head directly opposite the eyes, where there are two depressions.
Massage method: Close the eyes and massage the rear eye area. It can quickly and significantly improve symptoms such as dry eyes and blurred vision.
Acupuncture method: When eye pressure is high, the rear eye area bulges. Use acupuncture to lightly draw blood, and the eyes will immediately become clear and bright.
3. Do eye exercises regularly
When you feel your body is deficient, drink some bone soup to nourish the body, put on sneakers and run a few laps on the track — it is all benefit and no harm to the body.
7. Improve physical fitness and persist in physical exercise
In the Ministry of Education's new version of eye exercises, there is one section that involves rotating the eyeballs. Eye rotation is very beneficial to the eyes. Eye protection training includes methods of rotating the eyeballs, such as playing badminton and table tennis — the eyeballs rotate back and forth following the ball, which is certainly beneficial. Flying kites, kicking shuttlecocks, and other exercises are also beneficial.
On the other hand, frequently rotating the neck improves blood supply to the brain and is also good for the eyes. Pay attention to the way you rotate the neck: do not turn in circles; turn left three times and right three times. Recall the scene in high school physical education class when the teacher taught us warm-up exercises. What you learned can be picked up again and becomes your own — no need to return it to the teacher.
Persist in long-distance running. I persisted in long-distance running for more than 3 years. With a height of 170 cm and a weight of 80 kg, my bones are relatively solid, my muscles are firm, and my body is still fairly agile. Among my friends, no one even noticed my obesity. My favorite weekend afternoon activity is long-distance running. In winter, wearing short pants and running outside in an outdoor environment of around 16 degrees Celsius (Shenzhen, Guangdong) is a bit flashy. Running improved my breathing. Among the Five Elements, the lungs are metal and the kidneys are water; metal generates water, so my kidneys are relatively better. The kidneys are the "office of the monarch" — the monarch is the core that controls all the body's officials (the five organs and six bowels). If the kidneys are good, the teeth must be good; teeth are the essence of the kidneys. Through improvements in diet as well, my overall physical constitution improved. The hallmark of a healthy body is that no matter how fatigued you are, one night's sleep and you recover the next day. If you accidentally get chilled in winter, you absolutely will not catch a cold or fever. If in summer you eat something you shouldn't and get slightly poisoned, a few trips to the restroom and it's fine.
8. Doctor's advice
Finally, let's refer to the doctor's opinions and methods, from 120ask.com (Yesaskmust答). The question is: What should people who often sit in front of a computer eat that is good for their eyes?
Computers are very harmful to vision. People who frequently operate computers should eat more eye-brightening foods, such as goji berries, chrysanthemum, and cassia seeds. Regularly drinking chrysanthemum tea can also achieve the effect of clearing the heart and brightening the eyes. Goji berries clear the liver and brighten the eyes, and are also very beneficial for protecting vision. Drinking tea can prevent vision decline and restore vision. Deficiencies in essential fatty acids, vitamins A, K, E, and B vitamins can reduce the body's tolerance to radiation and should be appropriately supplied in the diet, such as milk, eggs, liver, cauliflower, cabbage, eggplant, lentils, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, bananas, apples, etc.
Laser surgery is not recommended — it is too dangerous. This kind of surgery should be banned abroad. The stock god Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, the top name in the IT world, still wear glasses. Their level of medical technology far surpasses ours, yet they have not had laser surgery. Look at domestic ophthalmologists — they all still wear glasses and have not had surgery. Are we supposed to be guinea pigs for doctors who wear glasses?
Having written so much, most of it comes from my personal experience. Finally, I wish everyone good vision and success in striving for family and happiness.
